Best (and easiest) blood test for diabetes

Investigators in this study published recently in the journal Diabetes Care verified that measuring hemoglobin A1C is preferable to fasting glucose for the diagnosis of diabetes. Hemoglobin A1C (glycosylated hemoglobin) is formed when glucose combines with hemoglobin in red blood cells. While fasting glucose is the 'snapshot' of a single point in time, HgbA1C amounts to an average of the glucose level over 3-4 months. Unlike fasting blood sugar, hemoglobin A1C can be drawn any time regardless of proximity to meals.
