Grapefruit seed extract in commercial products is not active

During this time of year many people try grapefruit seed extract products for a natural antimicrobial alternative. In a study published in the German journal Pharmazie, investigators found that only the preservatives (benzethonium chloride, triclosan and methyl parabene) showed growth inhibiting activity. The grapefruit seed extracts without preservatives had no detectable antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial therapy should be personalized—contact us if you have questions.
